Azure
My primary focus is Azure. The key areas I've focused on are:
- Virtual machines
- SQL databases
- Storage accounts
- App services
- Logic apps
- Function apps
- Defining governance policies
- Setting backup policies
- Compliance and reporting
This list will continue to expand.
Power Platform
Work in this area is limited to creating forms with Power Apps and workflows with Power Automate. These are usually created to work with SharePoint lists.
SharePoint
Having started out creating sites and developing .Net code to run in SharePoint 2010 and 2013, I now work with SharePoint Online creating lists and forms. I also develop .Net applications that interact with SharePoint Online, including automating the creation of sites and lists/libraries.
Development/Scripting
I can create .Net Windows and console applications for a variety of needs.
I have also created a number of PowerShell scripts that are used to automate various processes or to provide reporting functionality.
About Me
My name is Paul Wright.
From 2014 to 2024, I worked at Northumbrian Water Limited on a full time basis.
Initially, this was supporting existing, and developing new, on-premise SharePoint systems.
In 2017, NWL ventured into Office 365 and Azure. I moved onto their Cloud Migration Project,
migrating applications from their on-premise data centre to the cloud. Wherever possible, modernising applications along the way.
Now I work as a contractor providing Microsoft services, mainly in the Azure area, to companies who might be just starting their cloud journey or don't have staffing capacity to handle their requirements.
Some of the projects I have completed at NWL:
- Defined Azure policies for governance and compliance
- Migrated VM patching from Azure Automation to Azure Update Manager
- Set up an Azure Data Factory to perform nightly data extracts for web queries
- Developed an Azure App Service to perform "mail merge" type activities
- Created a Power Automate workflow to strip and unzip attachments from emails
- Converted classic ASP forms to Power Apps/Power Automate
- Created PowerShell scripts to automate user account creation/deletion
- Developed a .Net app to move files from on-premise locations to SharePoint Online
